Stefon Diggs Signing With Patriots Rival Suddenly Makes Sense

The [New England Patriots](https://nesn.com/new-england-patriots) moved on from Stefon Diggs this offseason, after just one season, and he could be a great fit for one of their rivals.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly trading Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos. The Dolphins released Tyreek Hill as well this offseason, so their receiver room has been left rather thin. Diggs is a free agent and would make sense as a target for the Dolphins.

Diggs had over 1,000 yards last season, coming off an ACL tear. He signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal with the Patriots after his short stint with the Houston Texans. He was the Patriots' leading receiver, and now, as he searches for a new team, one of the Patriots' division rivals could really use him.

The Dolphins have a new head coach in Jeff Hafley, and Mallik Willis will be a starting quarterback for the first time in his career. He has started in the past, but has never been a team's No. 1 option at quarterback. Diggs would give the Dolphins a veteran in the receiver room who can help lead.

Haffley has never been a head coach in the NFL, so he could also use a veteran presence like Diggs on his team. The Dolphins also have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft. If they select a receiver, Diggs could be a mentor for him as well.

Diggs figures to sign a cheaper, short-term deal this offseason. He proved he still has some good football left in the tank, and signing with the Dolphins would allow him to play the Patriots twice a season after they released him.
