NBA champions declared by well-known analyst

Kendrick Perkins predicts the San Antonio Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama, will win the 2026 NBA Championship.

The San Antonio Spurs, who are 50-18 and second in the Western Conference, are predicted to win the 2026 NBA Championship, according to former NBA champion and current analyst Kendrick Perkins.

San Antonio Spurs / Schedule

"The San Antonio Spurs are going to win the NBA Championship," Perkins declared on First Take.

He dismissed concerns about the Spurs' playoff inexperience and praised Victor Wembanyama, along with the team's young core. This season, Wemby is averaging 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game.

Perkins' prediction would likely require the Spurs to overcome the league-leading Oklahoma City Thunder (53-15) in the Conference Finals.

San Antonio, however, has already dominated OKC this season, holding a 4-1 record against them.

This matchup could spark a lasting rivalry in the NBA. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander commented earlier in the season:

"Possibly, there is a good chance for that," Gilgeous-Alexander said.

"As you said, they are playing well, a whole lot of talent, they are playing the right way, and have a good brand of basketball, it's definitely a possibility. But we know that anything can happen in a couple of years."
