Steelers miss out on top free agent guard

In terms of teams who have had the best offseason through one week, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in that conversation.

Along with trading for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr, the Steelers have added free agents Rico Dowdle, Jamel Dean, and Jaquan Brisker, making both their offense and defense stronger. The Steelers haven’t had many notable losses, but the most glaring is left guard Isaac Seumalo leaving to join the Arizona Cardinals. With Seumalo gone, Spencer Anderson is currently slotted into the starting role. And while he has been a good swing tackle, Anderson isn’t a proven commodity as a starting guard, which makes the position one of the Steelers’ biggest needs.

Multiple big-name free agents remained for the Steelers to target, but arguably the biggest is now off the market. Former Cleveland Browns guard Wyatt Teller is signing with the Houston Texans. The three-time Pro Bowler was a name that many were circling for the Steelers if they wanted to go the veteran route. With him off the board, now, it’s becoming more likely that the Steelers could use their first-round pick on a guard to fill the hole Seumalo left behind.
