From a look at the team sheets tonight, we thought we had figured out what Liam Rosenior was going to do with a few players out.
It looked like Trevoh Chalobah at right back, Mamadou Sarr and Jorrel Hato at centre back, then Marc Cucurella at left back.
But those in the stadium watching the warm-ups have spotted it will be closer to a back 3, with Pedro Neto as right wing back and Cucurella as the left.
Chelsea gamble on a back three
Of course the difference between those setups can be very minimal in practice. Neto will be a little deeper with a bit more defensive responsibility, Hato and Sarr a little wider than a traditional central defender.
Sarr and Hato have experience in back threes in those wider positions, Neto has the energy to be a right wing back. On the other hand, it means we’re playing a young three, with Sarr and Hato both 20 years old and Chalobah 26.
The Blues need three goals at least, let’s hope this helps put them in dangerous positions.
