The Dallas Cowboys have not reached the NFC Championship Game since 1995, which happens to also be the last time they won a Super Bowl. For over 30 years now, owner and general manager Jerry Jones has been trying to get his team back to the highest pinnacle of the NFL world. But, he has not been successful.
Instead, Jones has cycled through head coach after head coach while wasting the career of Tony Romo. If things do not change soon, he is going to be guilty of doing the same thing with Dak Prescott.
In a recent interview, Jones bemoaned the lack of defense on his 2025 Cowboys team as the reason why they did not find the success they were looking for. In doing so, though, he told on himself.

During the aforementioned interview, Jones said of his 2025 team:
“I’ll tell you, when you have the challenges we had last year, there’s no place to go but up on the defensive side of the ball. Had we played a lick of defense last year, we would’ve had ourselves, I think, a real playoff run.”
Jones, of course, fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after just one season and replaced him Christian Parker this off-season.
But the coaching can only be blamed for so much. At the end of the day, it is Jones who builds the roster, and he simply did not add the necessary talent for Eberflus, or anyone, to be successful coaching that side of the ball.
What is more, Jones traded away an All-Pro pass rusher, Micah Parsons, because he did not want to talk to the player’s agent.
There is no doubt that the Cowboys owner/general manager wants his team to be successful. No one is doubting how much he loves the team and how badly he desires to bring a Super Bowl home to Dallas.
But is has been over 30 years! At some point, he has to look in the mirror to finally find the problem that has caused the Cowboys’ championship drought.
