Trade speculation surrounding Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown took another turn Tuesday after a revealing update from Adam Schefter on The Pat McAfee Show added a clearer timeline to the situation.

After Jaylen Waddle was traded to the Broncos, Schefter provided some key notes.

“I never heard that Denver was involved in any talks for A.J. Brown,” Schefter said during the appearance. “If the Eagles are gonna trade him it makes sense to do it post June 1.”

That comment may be the most important detail yet in what has become one of the NFL offseason’s most closely watched storylines. While rumors have connected multiple teams to Brown, Schefter’s update suggests the timing is the key factor shaping how this situation unfolds.

Eagles Post-June 1 Timeline Becomes Critical

The reasoning behind Schefter’s timeline is rooted in finances. If the Philadelphia Eagles were to move Brown before June 1, they would take on a massive dead cap hit of roughly $43 million. Waiting until after June 1 drops that number significantly to around $16 million.

That gap is not minor. It’s the difference between a nearly unworkable move and a realistic one.

Schefter’s comment reinforces what many around the league have suspected: even if a trade is likely, it is not imminent. Philadelphia has every incentive to wait, both to manage the salary cap and to potentially drive up the asking price as more teams reassess their rosters deeper into the offseason.

At the same time, Schefter made it clear he still leans toward a deal eventually happening.

“I would still lean towards an A.J. Brown trade because that’s what I think he prefers,” he said.

That combination of player preference and financial timing continues to fuel the speculation.

Eagles Trade Market Still Developing for A.J. Brown

Even with growing belief that Brown could be moved, a deal is far from guaranteed in the immediate future. As Schefter noted, no team has yet stepped forward with an offer strong enough to meet Philadelphia’s expectations.

“There has to be a team out there that is willing to make it happen, but that hasn’t been the case,” he added.

That could change quickly.

Contending teams or quarterback-needy franchises may become more aggressive as the offseason progresses, especially if they believe adding a true No. 1 receiver could shift their ceiling. Brown remains one of the league’s most productive and physically dominant wideouts, which ensures interest will not disappear.

However, one key team, the Broncos, is now out of the running for Brown after trading for Waddle Tuesday morning.

For now, however, the key takeaway from Schefter’s comments is timing. The situation may feel urgent, but the most realistic window for movement is still months away.

Until then, Brown’s future in Philadelphia will continue to hover over the league with June 1 now emerging as the date to watch.
