The Chicago Bears have taken a measured approach to free agency under general manager Ryan Poles, avoiding splash moves while focusing on depth and long-term flexibility.
However, that strategy has left a clear need at one position.
Following the departures of Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker, Chicago is still searching for a starting-caliber safety to pair with newly signed Coby Bryant. While bigger names have dominated headlines, one under-the-radar option is beginning to gain traction.
According to Ryan Heckman of Bear Goggles On, the Bears should strongly consider targeting former New Orleans Saints safety Ugo Amadi. The move would come with a built-in connection to defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
Bears Familiarity With Dennis Allen Makes Amadi Logical Fit
Amadi spent the last three seasons in New Orleans, playing under Allen and developing a strong understanding of his defensive system.

That familiarity could play a major role in bringing Amadi to Chicago and allow him to fit in seamlessly right away.
During the 2024 season, Amadi put together one of the most productive stretches of his career. He appeared in 11 games, making five starts while logging 69 percent of defensive snaps. He recorded 65 total tackles, seven pass breakups and the first two sacks of his career.
His skill set also fills a specific need.
Amadi has proven to be more effective closer to the line of scrimmage, particularly against the run. That would complement Bryant, who profiles as more of a coverage-oriented safety, giving Chicago a more balanced pairing on the back end.
Underrated Option Could Fill Key Bears Role
While Amadi has never been a full-time starter, he has consistently provided value as a rotational defender capable of stepping into larger roles when needed.
That versatility could be especially important for a Bears roster still expected to add competition at the position, potentially through the NFL Draft.
Financially, the move would also make sense.
With Chicago managing limited cap flexibility after the first wave of free agency, Amadi represents a low-cost veteran option who already understands the system and could contribute immediately.
As the Bears continue reshaping their secondary, bringing in Amadi would not be the biggest splash, but it would add a key piece of depth for Dennis Allen’s new-look defense.”
