NFL Analyst Makes Stance Clear on Broncos' Decision to Trade for Jaylen Waddle

The Denver Broncos were initially very quiet this offseason. On Tuesday, they pulled off a trade with the Miami Dolphins to land wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, sending the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, along with third- and fourth-round selections, back to Miami.

In return, Denver gets Waddle and a Dolphins fourth-rounder, a move that signals the Broncos are not rebuilding, they're pushing. Waddle was a sixth overall pick out of Alabama in 2021 and put together three straight 1,000-yard seasons to open his career.

The last two years have not hit that mark. He finished this past season with 910 receiving yards and six touchdowns catching passes from both Tua Tagovailoa and Quinn Ewers but the talent and track record are hard to argue with.

FS1 analyst Nick Wright was not arguing either. During a segment on First Things First, Wright made it clear he was on board with Denver's decision, even with a first-round pick heading out the door.

"They needed some type of threat. Adding a 27-year-old on a good contract, who has been healthy in his career - I think he has six career games missed - four, basically, the 30th pick and a third, because you're swapping fourths, that makes sense to me. That is not over-aggressive, and it makes even more sense when I think he's better than any of the free agent receivers. They all cost more money."

"Now, you wouldn't have had to give up the first-round pick, but the 30th pick is not the same as giving up the 13th pick or a great first-round pick. So I think this is very smart for Denver. I applaud this move. I think this is a move of a well-run team."

Waddle steps into a Denver offense that already has Courtland Sutton as its top option. The two bring different things. Sutton's size and physicality up top, Waddle's speed working underneath and stretching the field.

On paper, it is a balanced pairing that gives Bo Nix real weapons to work with. Nix is coming off a leg injury, and how well he bounces back will determine a lot about where this offense can go.

If he's healthy and sharp, Denver suddenly has one of the more capable receiving duos in the AFC. The Broncos came close last season. This move says they think they're ready to go further.
