Liam Rosenior was on the receiving end of jeers from the Chelsea crowd for subs made against PSG.
Chelsea legend Joe Cole has slammed the club’s ownership following the 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Liam Rosenior saw his side thrashed 8-2 on aggregate across the two legs and dumped out of the Champions League. There were moments of promise under the lights in West London, but the Blues never truly looked like threatening PSG.
Boos rang around Stamford Bridge on multiple occasions as Luis Enrique’s side cruised to victory, with particular frustration shown towards Rosenior when making his substitution in the second half.
The Chelsea boss turned to Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap and Romeo Lavia from the bench with stars Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro coming off. Blues fans appeared keen to seen Willian Estevao from the bench.
Joe Cole slams Chelsea ownership model after PSG defeat
Speaking after full-time, Joe Cole pointed a finger at individuals in the club but defended Rosenior. The former Champions League runner-up told TNT Sports: “That is a real leveller of where this club is. Paris is the gold standard. They are the Champions of Europe - it shows that Chelsea are a million miles away over the course of the two legs.
“Chelsea equipped themselves for 75 minutes but games are about crucial moments and what you do. This isn’t a Liam Rosenior problem. Liam’s doing what he’s doing, he’s just come through the door.
“This is a problem with the strategy and direction, where the club are going. This is a real eye opener for where we are as a club at the moment. It’s a lot of money that’s been spent and there should be a real think of what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.
“That is just simply not good enough. There’s 20 year olds and 19 years olds on the pitch tonight. There’s time for them to grow and improve and get better. Tonight’s not their night and they’ll have better nights in their career.
“As a football club, you’ve got to go football club first, not business first, or you’ll get performances like that.”
Estevao has three goals already in the Champions League this season, with strikes against Ajax, Qarabag and Barcelona. The winger has missed five matches with a hamstring injury and had only returned to the matchday squad for the first time since that problem against PSG.
