“Maybe They Tanking for Arch”: Former NFL Star Names Biggest Loser of Free Agency

The New York Jets are drawing criticism after a quiet start to NFL free agency. Former All Pro defensive back Aqib Talib did not hold back in his assessment of the team’s offseason approach.

Talib pointed to the team as one of the biggest disappointments so far, citing a lack of major impact signings despite expectations. He suggested that a franchise located in a high profile market like New York should have little trouble attracting top talent.

New York entered the offseason with clear needs on both sides of the ball, leading many to expect aggressive moves early in free agency. Instead, the team has taken a more measured approach, leaving several roster gaps still unaddressed as other contenders added key pieces.

Talib also raised questions about the overall direction of the franchise, speculating that the lack of urgency could signal a longer term strategy. His remarks included the possibility that the Jets may be positioning themselves for a future reset rather than immediate contention.

Talib recently named the Jets as the biggest loser in free agency this year. This can be seen in a video shared by The Arena: Gridiron on X.

“Imma say the Jets lost man. They came with big money, Demario Davis. Guys will go to New York because they love the market. It’s the spotlight like it shouldn’t be hard to get players to go to New York. I just expected the Jets to be a major player in free agency and they’re not. Maybe they’re tanking for Arch. They’ll finish last in the AFC East,” Talib said.

Part of that speculation centered on the idea of targeting a top quarterback prospect in a future draft, including highly regarded Texas standout Arch Manning. While that scenario remains uncertain, it reflects growing skepticism about the team’s short term outlook.

As the offseason continues, the franchise still have time to reshape their roster and address lingering needs. For now, however, the perception around the league suggests a team that has yet to match expectations, fueling criticism from former players and analysts alike.
