The Houston Texans have checked needs off their offseason list in short order, utilizing free agency and the trade market. The Texans still have the 2026 draft to go, and they appear to have eyes for Clemson’s Adam Randall.

Randall is an intriguing size-speed prospect.

He also plays a position that the Texans have worked diligently to improve over the past few offseasons.

“Source: The Houston Texans will host Clemson RB Adam Randall for a 30 visit,” “Commanding The Huddle” host Ryan Fowler reported in a post on X on March 17. “Explosive ball-carrier with also some of the best hands in the class as a WR convert (6’3”, 232 lbs). Senior Bowl week standout.”

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson corroborated Fowler’s report with one of his own, adding that Randall has an official 40-yard dash time of 4.5 seconds and a 37-inch vertical leap.

Wilson later added that the visit indeed took place on Tuesday.

“Randall, a former wide receiver, is new to his position, but his blend of size, top-end speed and pass-catching ability make him an intriguing prospect. He’s an upright long-strider with surprising one-cut quickness and home-run potential. He doesn’t run with pro-level rhythm, recognition or timing, but improvement awaits. He’s willful once he’s downhill, using balance and force to maximize yardage after collisions,” NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote in February.

“Receiving skills create mismatches against man coverage and allow for alignment versatility. Randall is still raw, but RBs with his size, speed and route skill are rare. He offers value as a developmental option with RB2 upside in a zone-heavy scheme.”

Houston ranked 22nd in rushing yards during the 2025 regular season, and they tied the Cleveland Browns for the fourth-fewest rushing yards per attempt.

Adam Randall Consistently Turning Heads

Randall has been impressing onlookers during the lead-up to the 2026 draft, an encouraging trend for the Texans leading into the draft. That includes during Clemson’s official pro day this past week.

“Leaving Clemson Pro Day. My biggest takeaway? Some team is going to get an absolute steal in RB Adam Randall,” ESPN’s Jordan Reid posted on X on March 12. “He has aced the pre-draft process. Considering he’s a converted WR, his upside as a do-it-all weapon and return specialist are immense.”

The Texans could land Randall at a bargain price. Pro Football Focus ranked him the 233rd-best prospect and the 24th-best running back in this year’s class.

The Texans currently have three running backs under contract, and none are like Randall.

Texans’ Backfield Makeover Could Continue

David Montgomery, Houston Texans

Randall would be the latest move in a string of transactions that began with the trade for Joe Mixon during the 2024 offseason and includes the former Cincinnati Bengals star’s release and a trade for David Montgomery this offseason.

In between, the Texans have drafted Jawhar Jordan in the sixth round in 2024 and used a fourth-rounder on Woody Marks in 2025.

They also signed Nick Chubb in free agency during the 2025 offseason.

Heading into the 2026 draft, and potentially toward Randall, with Jordan, Marks, and Montgomery as their three backs under contract. Texans general manager Nick Caserio said before Mixon’s release and acquiring Montgomery that the Texans would roster more than that.

Randall could be a fitting addition for the Texans in the 2026 draft, complementing what they already have and not requiring them to do anything drastic to land him.
