Edwards, who will miss 1-2 weeks with his knee injury, has to play eight more games to reach the NBA's 65-game rule for awards eligibility.
In the most critical stretch of the regular season, Anthony Edwards will be unavailable for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota Timberwolves / Schedule
The superstar guard will be out for one to two weeks due to right knee inflammation. Edwards could only return by April for Minnesota, as his knee injury has been bothering him recently.
Given this new injury concern, Edwards may miss the 2025-26 season's individual awards if his absence is extended.
According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, Edwards has to return within two weeks to remain eligible for postseason honors. If not, he will be excluded from consideration.
Edwards has missed nine of the Timberwolves' 68 games so far this season. He needs to play eight more games to enter the 65-game rule.
The 24-year-old has been enjoying a sensational campaign this season, flashing his best offensive year with a career-best 29.5 points in nearly 50 percent shooting with 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals.
Right now, the Wolves couldn't care less about Edwards' awards eligibility. Without their franchise star, they have to keep their fight alive for a playoff spot.
Entering Tuesday's home game against the Phoenix Suns, the Wolves are sixth in the West with a 41-27 record.
