Kyler Murray is now the new quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, and is an important signing for them. The franchise finished third in the NFC North division with a 9-8 record. They missed the playoffs and fans were left disappointed with the team’s performances.
Now, the fans are expecting some huge changes at the franchise, in order to see success. Broadcaster Louis Riddick garnered much online attention after a post he made.
Louis Riddick hypes up Kyler Murray
The Vikings acquired Murray in March 2026, in a pivotal shift in their quarterback strategy after a challenging 2025 season under J.J. McCarthy. The Vikings signed him to a one-year veteran minimum deal worth approximately $1.3 million. He is still owed $36.8 million in guaranteed money for 2026 by the Arizona Cardinals who released him earlier this offseason.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell personally pitched Murray during recruitment. He is said to have told Murray that “he was the one guy on the market that they could see as a potential longer-range answer, rather than a one-year Band-Aid.” Murray has experience and is fit, which means he can instantly provide impact on a low-risk contract.
This means that the head coach and the franchise look at Murray as not a short-term option, but rather a long-term viable option. This means that McCarthy will be relegated to the bench, which is surprising as he was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Many argue that he was only a rookie who was thrust into starting action, and that he will only get better.
ESPN analyst Riddick also agrees with this decision, sharing the post, and saying, “Well well well…” However, many fans do not agree with his assessment and attacked him, preferring McCarthy to be the main option.
Fans push back on Louis Riddick’s Kyler Murray assessment
Many fans argued with Riddick that his opinion about Murray was wrong.
One user commented, “Lmao Vikings are gonna be 7-10 next year. Kyler is no longer a needle mover at all”.
A second user remarked,”Until call of duty comes out”.
A third user wrote, “So we’re back on the path of recycling veterans every few years so we can be competitive once a decade and never draft a franchise QB. Cool”.
Another added, “He would be one of the little band aids for finger boo-boos”.
A fifth user replied, “Vikings are set if they need help playing Call of Duty”.
A sixth user said, “Recycling Veterans Forever”.
Kyler Murray will be ready for the 2026 NFL season, and will join the Minnesota Vikings soon.
