Amid Man City’s long-term interest, Tottenham’s plan on Pedro Porro’s future comes to light

Manchester City are the latest club to have expressed an interest in signing Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro.

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to keep hold of their best players this summer as they look to rebuild their squad after what is heading towards another awful Premier League finish. However, retaining the services of their key men could prove to be a tough task, with several stars attracting interest ahead of the summer window.

Pedro Porro is one such player. The Spaniard has established himself as one of the most reliable full-backs in the Premier League in recent years. While he hasn’t been great this season like most of his teammates, clubs have not stopped cooling interest in him.

Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Porro in the summer as they look to strengthen their backline. Serie A giants Inter Milan have identified the Tottenham star as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries. Now, Manchester City are showing interest in re-signing the 26-year-old.

Tottenham plan to offer Pedro Porro a new contract

Amid the chaotic situation at N17, Tottenham will try to keep as many players as possible in the summer. Spurs find themselves in a tricky position with how their campaign has been going. If they manage to beat the drop, Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke exclusively claims that the board will look to tie Porro down to a new contract.

Porro’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028, so the club has no real rush to sell him. However, he will certainly depart if the North Londoners go down to the Championship. Even if we stay up, Tottenham would find it difficult to retain the Don Benito-born star’s services, given the rising interest.

“(Man City) have had a long-term interest in Pedro Porro. They know all about the Spanish international, having signed him from Girona in 2019,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively revealed on the Transfer Insider Podcast.

“I’m sure a number of clubs, not just Manchester City, are looking at Porro and other Tottenham players to see who they could maybe steal away if the worst happens to Tottenham and they are relegated.

“Ideally, Spurs, if they do sort themselves out and secure Premier League survival, they would probably want to tie down someone like Porro to a new contract.

“Their ongoing struggles are giving some of their rivals a bit of hope that they could be susceptible to offers for the top players, including Porro.”

Tough to keep Porro

Spurs bosses would like Porro to pen fresh terms and commit his future to the club. But if the North Londoners were to drop out of the Premier League, it is highly possible that the Spanish international would seek a move away to continue competing at a high level to improve his prospects of becoming a regular for the national team.

Recent reports claimed Tottenham value the experienced right-back at a minimum of €25m. The idea of our club accepting a measly €25m for Porro is ridiculous as it sounds, given his experience, leadership skills and value to the squad. And even if the Hotspur Way chiefs were to be forced into selling, they would want a much higher fee than the reported valuation for the ex-Sporting Lisbon man.
