Trevoh Chalobah suffers high ankle sprain in PSG defeat

To complete our misery on this Tuesday night, Trevoh Chalobah suffered a serious-looking injury in the final few minutes of the game, getting stretchered off the pitch with plenty of concern from all around. Considering that it came in the final minutes of an absolute blowout makes it even more frustrating.

After the game, head coach Liam Rosenior confirmed that the initial diagnosis is a high ankle sprain — not the worst possible outcome, but certainly not good news.

> “I just asked the medical team, and he’s got a high ankle sprain. So I’m praying it’s nothing too serious because the way Trevor has been performing. We can’t afford to lose another defender in this moment.”

Prayers or not, high ankle sprains are by definition non-trivial and generally require a recovery of around 4-6 weeks. A more serious case would rule out Chalobah for the rest of the season, and even beyond.

Chalobah has been ever-present this season, anchoring an ever-changing backline to the best of his abilities. He’s also been one of the few players to put in performances at a relatively consistent level — maybe not the highest level, but at least a reliable level. The 26-year-old will have two years left on his contract this summer (with a club option), so it could be a pivotal next few months for him and the club.
