BALDINGER PRAISES POLAMALU
Troy Polamalu is one of the best players in Steelers history. He helped define their defense during the 2000s, when the Steelers won two Super Bowls. Polamalu was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. His efforts landed him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, solidifying him as one of the best safeties ever.
Former NFL offensive lineman and current analyst Brian Baldinger recently took time to reflect on Polamalu’s play. He thinks that Polamalu wouldn’t have been able to play like that today, and he’s probably right. The same could be said about much of the Steelers’ defense. Historically, they’re hard hitters, which the NFL has cracked down on.
JAMES WASHINGTON INDUCTED INTO OSU HOF
The Steelers spent a second-round pick in 2018 on wide receiver James Washington. Although he had a solid 2019 season, catching 44 passes for 735 yards, he unfortunately didn’t pan out in Pittsburgh. He left them after the 2021 season, and he signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Sadly, he suffered an injury that kept him out for most of the year, and his NFL career ended shortly thereafter.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that Washington was a successful college player. He played at Oklahoma State University from 2014 to 2017, notching 226 catches for 4,472 yards and 39 touchdowns. For his efforts, he’s being inducted into Oklahoma State’s Athletics Hall of Fame, as the school announced on Twitter. It’s a great honor for Washington.
KUNTZ SPEAKS IRISH
The Steelers made history last year by playing in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Ireland. That was made even sweeter by a win. The Steelers have a deep connection to Ireland because of the Rooney family, so the event was special for the organization.
Tuesday is Saint Patrick’s Day, and Steelers Ireland posted a video on Twitter where long snapper Christian Kuntz tried to speak Irish. Many people might not know this, but Ireland has its own language. Kuntz gave it a good shot, especially because he’s from Pittsburgh, which has its own specific accent.
