Russell Westbrook moves into top-five on NBA’s all-time assists list

Russell Westbrook added yet another milestone to his Hall of Fame resume on Tuesday night, moving into the top five on the NBA’s all-time assists list during the matchup between the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs at Golden 1 Center.

Entering the night ranked seventh all-time with 10,333 assists, Westbrook needed just three to pass both Mark Jackson (10,334) and Steve Nash (10,335).

The 18-year veteran wasted little time making history, recording the necessary assists and officially surpassing two of the greatest point guards the league has ever seen during the first half.

Westbrook went on to finish the night with 10 assists and no turnovers over 24 minutes.

More on Russell Westbrook

With the achievement, Russell Westbrook climbed into fifth place all-time, further cementing his legacy as one of the most dynamic and productive guards in NBA history. Known for his explosive athleticism and relentless motor, Westbrook has often been defined by his scoring and rebounding, but his playmaking has quietly been just as historic.

Passing Nash, a two-time MVP widely regarded as one of the purest passers in league history, and Jackson, long considered one of the game’s steadiest floor generals, only adds to the significance of the moment. It’s a testament to Westbrook’s longevity, consistency, and impact on the game in multiple ways throughout his career.

Now firmly inside the top five all-time in assists, Westbrook continues to build a legacy that will be remembered among the greatest to ever play the game–and he isn’t done yet.

Although Sacramento remains on track to finish with a high lottery pick this offseason, Westbrook has 12 more games to keep adding to his career total.

Westbrook has been the Kings’ motor on the offensive end this season, leading Sacramento in assists and assists per game while becoming just the franchise’s fourth player to rack up over 400 assists in a single season over the past 10 years (start of the 2015-16 season):

De’Aaron Fox (4x)

Domantas Sabonis (3x)

Rajon Rondo (2015-16)

Russell Westbrook (2025-26)
