Manchester United’s pursuit of Champions League qualification resumes on Friday evening when Michael Carrick’s side take on Bournemouth.
The silver lining to Manchester United crashing out of cup competitions early this season is that full focus has been on the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
United now find themselves comfortably third in the Premier League table, so Champions League qualification is in sight with eight games remaining.
For just the second time all season, United are playing on a Friday evening, which means the Red Devils have a chance to pile pressure on their opponents.

Man Utd schedule is an opportunity to make Champions League statement
The Premier League have scheduled United’s trip to Bournemouth for Friday evening, and while that is not exactly ideal for a 250-mile trip, it does give Carrick an opportunity to strike first.
A win on Friday night against the Cherries will put United on 57 points for the season after 31 games. Because it is the first league fixture of the weekend, the Red Devils would end the night just four points off Manchester City.

Crucially, United would also be six points clear of Aston Villa in fourth, eight clear of Liverpool in fifth and nine clear of Chelsea in sixth.
Liverpool and Chelsea do not play until Saturday, when they face Brighton and Everton respectively. Villa have to wait until Sunday, when they face West Ham.
A top-five finish should be enough to secure Champions League football in 2026/27.
