Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League after an 8-2 aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea suffered their latest injury blow as they crashed out of the Champions League.

A 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the last-16 tie meant that Stamford Bridge fell to a 8-2 aggregate defeat. As a result, the only way that Chelsea can qualify for the competition next season is through their Premier League finish.

It is expected the top-five teams in the English top flight will earn a spot in Europe’s elite tournament. Chelsea are sixth in the table, one point behind Liverpool with eight games to play and three points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa.

And against PSG, they lost Trevoh Chalobah to injury. The defender was stretchered off in the closing stages of the encounter. Head coach Liam Rosenior said on Chalobah’s injury: “ I think he was really worried. I've just checked with the medical team. We'll obviously scan and assess him tomorrow. We are hoping and praying that it's not as bad as we first feared.”

Chelsea recently lost captain Reece James to a hamstring issue. He is expected to be ruled out for at least a few weeks. Rosenior said on James: “I'm waiting for the full results of his scan. And hopefully he's back sooner rather than later.”

It means that Chelsea are likely to be without three defenders when they face Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, with Levi Colwill (ACL) ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. Right-back Malo Gusto did not play against PSG because of illness. He could be back to face Everton.

Rosenior admitted he needs to ensure the loss to PSG and 1-0 reverse against Newcastle United last weekend does not have a serious impact on the rest of the season. “How I go about that is how we always go about it,” said Rosenior.

“We need to be resilient. We need to make sure we go to Everton with an organisation, with a freshness and intensity in our team because we want to be in this competition next season. And if we perform how I know we can, we can get there without the individual mistakes that we're making at the moment.
