'It's hard': How Liam Rosenior responded as Enzo Fernandez opens door to Chelsea exit

Enzo Fernandez immediately opened the door to a summer exit following Chelsea’s defeat to PSG on Tuesday night, and Liam Rosenior has been asked about those comments.

Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday night. Liam Rosenior said Chelsea had to be perfect to overturn the 5-2 first-leg defeat, but the Blues were hammered 3-0 in the second leg.

Throughout the game, World Cup winner and Argentina star Fernandez cut a frustrated figure. Wearing the captain’s armband, the former Benfica ace was constantly venting at his teammates for their mistakes.

How much would Enzo Fernandez cost if Chelsea tried to buy him today? 🤔 💰

Coming off on the hour mark with Rosenior accepting defeat and looking to save his best players for the clash against Everton, Fernandez then spoke about his future to Argentine media following the 3-0 loss.

What Enzo Fernandez said and Liam Rosenior’s reaction

Fernandez has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of the summer, and he was asked if he will definitely stay at Chelsea ahead of next season. But the midfielder opened the door to an exit.

He said: “I don’t know, there are 8 games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see”. It comes after Fernandez was reportedly one of a handful of Chelsea players requesting a new contract.

In his post-match press conference, Rosenior was immediately bombarded with Fernandez’s comments and was asked for his reaction. Quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Rosenior answered in the best way possible.

“I haven’t seen that. To be fair it’s hard for me to speak on speculation after this game. I need to focus on the more important thing,” Rosenior said. Fernandez has a contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2032.

Which clubs want to sign Enzo Fernandez this summer?

Given Chelsea spent more than £100m to land Fernandez from Benfica, the pocket-sized dynamo will only be able to join a select number of clubs. Chelsea are certainly not going to allow him to go at a loss.

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid and PSG are both keen on landing Fernandez from Chelsea in the coming months, if Todd Boehly and Clearlake are open to his exit. But they are not the only clubs interested.

Two Saudi Pro League sides have also made contact to land Fernandez in the coming months. A move to the Middle East seems unlikely, but big players have chosen the money over European silverware before.
