It has been a somewhat unusual season for Arsenal U18s, with the constantly changing starting lineup making it difficult for the team to develop much in the way of cohesion and momentum.
That is reflected in the fact that Arsenal are currently in tenth place in the table, whereas this time last year they still had a chance of winning the title.
There have, however, been some glimmers of hope in recent weeks, especially with regards to the use of some talented schoolboys.
Winger Kyran Thompson has been a regular presence in the squad throughout the season and is a talented prospect.
Of late, midfielders Emerson Nwaneri and Mishel Nduka have featured for the U18s and have shown some encouraging signs in terms of their technical ability and composure.
Nwaneri scored in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and is undoubtedly one of the most exciting prospects in next season’s proposed scholarship intake.
Left-back Elyon Mbala, who has good physical qualities for his age, has also featured prominently recently and midfielder Charlie Purdy has also been given some valuable minutes.
This experience should stand these players in good stead for next season, when they will be full time players.
Before then, Arsenal U18s still have nine games remaining of the current campaign and they will be determined to finish as strongly as possible.
