Ravens May Be Close To Signing Top Remaining Free Agent

The Baltimore Ravens lost several key players in free agency, but they could be close to adding an important piece to the offense. For years, Baltimore’s offense has been defined by the tight end position. Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely, and Charlie Kolar formed one of the league’s deepest trios, and all had the skills to consistently make plays on offense. While Andrews is still around, Likely and Kolar left for the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers, respectively.

Now, the team is looking for another tight end, and longtime division rival David Njoku could be the best choice for the job. A former first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Njoku never reached the elite tier at the position but was one of the league’s more consistent tight ends for the past decade. The Ravens reportedly brought him in for a visit, and nobody should be surprised if a signing occurs in the coming days.

Ravens Could Sign David Njoku After Free Agent Visit

David Njoku has been one of the few consistent weapons on the Cleveland Browns for the past nine seasons. A one-time Pro Bowl selection, Njoku made a name for himself as one of the league’s more reliable dual-threat tight ends, capable of making plays as both a receiver and a blocker. While he never reached the heights of guys like Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce, the Miami product finished most of his healthy seasons with 500-800 yards. His production peaked in 2023 when he recorded 81 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns on 123 targets.

Despite his long, successful career in Cleveland, the Browns may have their next great thing in Harold Fannin. The third-round pick overtook Njoku as the top tight end in the offense, finishing his rookie season with 72 receptions for 731 yards and six touchdowns on 107 targets despite enduring poor quarterback play throughout the season. This made Njoku expendable and could lead to him signing with a division rival.

Now entering his age-30 season, David Njoku is not the player he once was. However, he won’t need to be the focus of the offense. Mark Andrews is still around, and the veteran will remain the top option at the position. Njoku simply needs to fill the Isaiah Likely/Charlie Kolar role as a reliable TE2 whose presence will allow Baltimore to continue to run multiple tight end formations.
