New Contract Details For Steelers WR Michael Pittman Jr. Revealed

After trading for WR Michael Pittman Jr. at the start of the new league year last Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers quickly proceeded to sign the former member of the Indianapolis Colts to a contract extension. While it’s been nearly a full week since that transaction occurred, the full details related to Pittman’s two-year contract extension have finally surfaced.

According to Over the Cap, Pittman’s two-year extension totals out at $35 million in new money. Prior to being traded to the Steelers, Pittman was due $24 million in 2026, the then final year of his contract. Now that’s he’s signed the extension, Pittman is scheduled to earn $59 million through 2028.

As part of his contract extension, the Steelers lowered Pittman’s 2026 base salary from $22 million to $1.3 million and that amount is also fully guaranteed. The team then gave Pittman the remaining $24 million he was previously scheduled to earn in 2026, $22.7 million, as a signing bonus.

Pittman’s new base salaries in the two new years of his contract extension are $16 million and $14 million, respectively. Pittman is also due a $2.5 million roster bonus in each of those two additional years. Pittman’s new salary cap charge for 2026 is $8,866,666 and his salary cap charges for 2027 and 2028 are now set to be $26,066,666 and $24,068,668, respectively.

All told, Pittman’s new money average for the contract extension is $17.5 million. However, Pittman will earn $24 million of the $59 million total in 2026. As previously reported, the Steelers traded a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, selection 214 overall, to the Colts in exchange for Pittman and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, selection 230 overall.

Pittman was selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of USC. Through his first six NFL seasons, Pittman has registered 485 total receptions for 5,254 yards and 25 touchdowns in 95 regular-season games played in.
