Mailbag: Are Cowboys going to address linebacker?

_Why have the Cowboys not yet addressed linebacker in free agency or with a trade?_ _This_ _was a glaring weakness last season. How_ _concerned_ _should we be?_ **– Rich Levinson/Bakersfield, CA**

**Mickey:** They should be very concerned, and an inside linebacker to pair with DeMarvion Overshown must be of high priority the remainder of free agency and heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. At this point, inside linebacker candidates with rights to on the current roster consist of Overshown, Shemar James and Justin Barron, the latter two mere rookies this past season. The Cowboys have a definite need for a true middle linebacker to play inside on the base 3-4 scheme, a guy who can direct traffic, make the adjustments and ball out against the run. The remaining field in free agency is pretty slim, and the majority of the proven guys are in their 30s and probably looking for a deal to convince them to play another season. And yes, that position was a weakness this past season. They sorely need a Sean Lee/Leighton Vander Esch type to man the middle.
