The Los Angeles Clippers’ injury concerns may be compounding at a critical point in the season.
Already dealing with uncertainty surrounding Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers were hit with another troubling development as Darius Garland was listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans due to left toe injury management.
The timing is difficult to ignore.
With Leonard also questionable after suffering a sprained ankle in Saturday’s 118-109 loss against the Sacramento Kings, the Clippers could be without both of their primary offensive engines as they try to snap a two-game losing streak and hold their position in the Western Conference playoff race.
Clippers Hit With Another Garland Injury Update

The latest Darius Garland injury update adds another layer of concern for a team still searching for consistency.
Los Angeles fell to the San Antonio Spurs 119-115 on Monday, dropping to 34-34 on the season. Despite the loss, the Clippers remain eighth in the Western Conference, holding a narrow cushion over teams chasing the final play-in spots.
Garland has been central to keeping the offense afloat.
The 26-year-old guard recorded 25 points and 10 assists in Monday’s loss — his second consecutive 25-point performance — as he continues to find rhythm with his new team. His ability to generate offense has been especially important with Leonard sidelined.
But now, his status is uncertain.
Kawhi Leonard’s Status Clouds Outlook
Leonard’s absence has already been felt.
The future Hall of Famer is averaging 28.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals this season while shooting over 50 percent from the field. His two-way presence remains irreplaceable, particularly as the Clippers navigate a crowded Western Conference race.
Leonard is also questionable for Wednesday’s matchup, raising the possibility that Los Angeles could be severely short-handed against a Pelicans team that has won six of its last 10 games.
With both Clippers stars’ availability uncertain, the Clippers are +1.5 to +2 underdogs against the Pelicans in most sportsbooks.
Garland Finding His Fit in Los Angeles
Before this latest setback, Garland had been trending upward.
Monday’s performance marked just his sixth game with the Clippers, but he has already begun to establish himself within the offense. Los Angeles is 5-2 in games he has played, and he is averaging 19.9 points and 6.6 assists since arriving.
Head coach Tyronn Lue has encouraged Garland to remain aggressive, particularly from beyond the arc.
“I think we need him to shoot more threes, like in the pocket on the pick-and-rolls,” Lue said. “So like, to come off and then try to attack and dance against [Victor Wembanyama], you’re not going to win that too often.”
Lue added that Garland’s tendency to prioritize playmaking over scoring can sometimes limit his impact.
“So I think he thinks it’s selfish to come off and just shoot it, but we need that,” Lue said. “I thought overall, he was pretty good. I thought he made the right decisions, made the right reads.”
Clippers Walking a Fine Line
The Clippers are reportedly considering managing Garland’s workload carefully, with the possibility of sitting him for part of the back-to-back. Another update on his status is expected closer to tipoff.
That approach reflects the broader challenge facing the team.
After opening the season 6-21, the Clippers have fought back to reach the .500 mark and remain in playoff contention with 14 games remaining. They also have one of the softer schedules down the stretch, offering a pathway to secure their position.
But their margin for error is slim.
If Garland joins Leonard on the sidelines, the Clippers will once again be forced to rely on their depth to keep their postseason hopes on track.
For now, uncertainty defines the moment.
