Positive Reece James injury update as Chelsea set target for return to action

Reece James’ current injury is going to cost Chelsea in the immediate future, however the latest report suggests he won’t be absent for as long as first feared.

James was forced to watch from the sidelines as his teammates were embarrassed by PSG in the Champions League, and unable to help out on the pitch.

Initial fears suggested that James was set to miss as much as two months of action, leaving it uncertain whether he could make an impact again in the Premier League this season.

Do you think Chelsea should sack Liam Rosenior? Or are you willing to give him more time?🤔

Reece James targeting return vs Manchester United on April 18

However, the latest indication is that the problem is not as bad as first feared. According to Simon Phillips’ Substack, the aim is for him to return for the clash against Manchester United in a month’s time.

He said: “SPTC Sources have learned that after assessing Reece James’ hamstring injury, the plan at this moment is to get him back for the Manchester United game on April the 18th.

“This would obviously be positive news and much better than the two months that was forecast yesterday.

“However, it is important for us to state that this is just the plan set out by the medical staff. Hamstrings can be difficult so it could be longer, and the forecast could change. But right now, this is the aim, to get James back for the United game. Let’s see what happens.”

Malo Gusto is likely to be playing the majority of games in his absence, with Josh Acheampong also showing he is a worthy option.

Reece James hoping for start at 2026 World Cup

Despite having a nightmare career when it comes to fitness, James has had a really decent campaign when it comes to minutes played.

He has played 36 games for the Blues in all competitions, and has ambitions to become the starting right-back for England at the upcoming World Cup.

Injuries and competition for places have ruled him out of making any meaningful impact in international competitions up to now, and he will be hoping the latest problem won’t impact his ability to feature in the United States.

For Chelsea, they need him back as soon as possible, with a place in the top five now needing some serious work to achieve.
