Como president Mirwan Suwarso has acknowledged that head coach Cesc Fabregas could one day leave the Serie A club to manage former side Chelsea, amid growing speculation that Liam Rosenior could be sacked.
Suwarso said it would be unrealistic for the club to ignore mounting speculation linking Fabregas with elite European jobs, as the former Spain international continues to impress in his first senior coaching role.
The 38-year-old, who played for both Arsenal and CHELSEA during a decorated career, has guided Como into an unlikely push for Champions League qualification this season, elevating the club’s profile across Europe.
Fabregas initially took charge on an interim basis in 2023 before being appointed permanently, and has since overseen a sharp upward trajectory for the Lombardy side, including a top-half finish last season and notable wins against traditional Serie A powerhouses.
His success has not gone unnoticed. Reports in recent months have linked him with clubs such as Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, while pundits have increasingly tipped him as a future managerial candidate for Arsenal, where he previously served as captain.
‘Cesc is really very important for us, but we would be stupid not to think that one day he could go to Arsenal, Barcelona or CHELSEA,’ Como’s chief told Italian outlet Revista Undici.
‘If he continues to win with us or in any case to be successful, even if I cannot speak for him, I believe he could have bigger dreams. Having said that, I hope that as long as he is here he will help us create a success plan also for those who will have to replace him.
‘For me, when he leaves, if he ever leaves, he should be the one to choose who will take his place. He should be involved in the choice. ‘Being a member of the Board of Football, he will have to help us appoint the next coach.’
Rosenior is under increased pressure as his chase for a top four spot and Champions League football next season has fallen apart, while the Blues were smashed by PSG over two legs, which is an shocking for a club like Chelsea
Fabregas, who is also part of Como’s board, has previously spoken about building a lasting legacy at the club, suggesting any departure would come only after establishing a sustainable sporting project.
For now, however, Como remain focused on their on-field ambitions, with the team currently occupying a top-four position in Serie A and pushing for European qualification. But with reports that Liam Rosenior could be heading towards the Chelsea sack, a move is reportedly on the cards.
