Champions League Race: Man United’s Qualification Chances Compared to Liverpool, Chelsea&Rivals

Man United are currently in a battle to secure Champions League football against the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Michael Carrick has put United in a fantastic position to secure European football next season, as his side currently sits third in the Premier League table.

They come off an impressive 3-1 win against Aston Villa, which was their third win in their last four matches. It also means they now sit six points into the top five, which should be enough to qualify for Champions League football next year.

Heading into their next game against Bournemouth on Friday, United could go to within four points of Manchester City in second, really stamping their position as a Champions League side for next season.

How do Man United’s Champions League chances compare to PL rivals?

In order to determine just how likely it is for Carrick to take United into the top five come the end of the season, we have decided to listen to the gospel that is Opta’s Premier League supercomputer, which has predicted the final Premier League table.

It predicts that United will finish third in the league, on a points tally of 66.40, which in the past two seasons would have been enough for them to finish fifth, which is a Champions League place. However, seeing as the points tally looks lower in the PL this year, 66 could be enough to finish in the top three.

The supercomputer says that United have an 82.28% chance to qualify for the Champions League, which is considerably more than their rivals. For example, Aston Villa have a 57.74% chance, Liverpool have a 34.35% chance, and Chelsea have a 21.88% chance.

Things are looking very positive for Carrick and Man United, and it would be assumed that if the United manager does manage to qualify for the top five, he will be in contention to land the permanent job come the start of next season.
