Moises Caicedo has a theory as to why Chelsea struggled so much against PSG

Moises Caicedo started in Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The midfielder and his Chelsea teammates will admit that their performance was simply not up to scratch.

Mamadou Sarr, in particular, had a poor game, giving away the first goal before being substituted at half-time. However, Caicedo is calling for a bit of perspective.

Did Rosenior make a mistake handing Sarr his first Champions League start in THIS scenario?

Moises Caicedo suggests Chelsea’s schedule is to blame for PSG defeat

Chelsea have played a lot of games this season, especially of late, and Caicedo thinks that hectic schedule impacted the team’s performance against PSG.

Speaking after the game via Chelsea’s official club website, the 24-year-old said: “Everyone was ready to fight, but I think we have four competitions playing every two or three days. Sometimes, in this scenario, it’s so difficult because they are doing well. We will keep going.”

Before the match, Claude Makelele discussed Caicedo, stating that he would have loved to play alongside him.

Liam Rosenior really could have done with someone like Makelele on Tuesday. His team are really lacking experience, while Andrey Santos had a difficult game in midfield.

Next up for Chelsea is Everton in the Premier League. If they want to be in the Champions League next season, it is a match they need to win.

Why Chelsea actually lost to PSG

There may very well have been some fatigue in the legs of Chelsea’s players after all of the matches that they have played lately. However, that is not why they lost.

PSG are a better team with much more quality. That is why the Blues could not beat them over two legs; it is as simple as that.

Yes, Chelsea beat them in the Club World Cup final last year, but it is now quite clear that Enzo Maresca deserves the credit for that. Rosenior’s big-game record at Chelsea so far is showing that neither he nor his players are capable of going toe-to-toe with the best.

That needs to change immediately, as they still have to play Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool before the end of May.
