Chicago Bears get good news on potential trade for Maxx Crosby despite insider suggesting it isn’t possible

The Chicago Bears have found themselves at the center of conflicting reports regarding a potential trade of Maxx Crosby.

Speaking recently, Adam Schefter made it seem doubtful that Chicago has the ability to make a blockbuster move, citing the financial issues to get a deal done.

“The Bears don’t have the money to make a move like that right now,” Schefter said, per Heavy. “They cannot afford it.”

That comment made many question what could happen, but Bears insider David Kaplan gave his thoughts, suggesting that Schefter’s remarks were more about cap mechanics than actual capability.

“So there is an uproar after Adam Schefter said the Bears are broke,” Kaplan wrote on X. “Relax. After making calls here’s the scoop. That was in reference to salary cap situation. They have whatever they need financially if Poles wants to make a move.”

While the Bears’ current cap situation could make a deal difficult, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re out of the running entirely. There are always ways to move cap space around if a team can get creative.

Reading for a player like Crosby would require not only changes but also major draft capital. We just saw the Baltimore Ravens send two first-rounders to the Raiders for Crosby, so that’s likely about the same the Bears or another team would have to move.
