Jimmy Garoppolo, despite not playing a ton recently, remains one of the more interesting names on the market, and a contender like the Kansas City Chiefs could emerge as a potential landing spot.
Garoppolo was a member of the Los Angeles Rams a season ago and could be brought back, but he might try to play elsewhere. Kansas City would fit due to Patrick Mahomes’ injury.
Eva Geitheim of Sports Illustrated wrote that Garoppolo’s free agency could be questionable now due to some other moves around the league, but that he’s still someone who could play for teams.
“Jimmy Garoppolo initially appeared to be a strong candidate to sign with the Cardinals before a report emerged that talks between the two sides “hit a snag.”
“The Cardinals have since signed Gardner Minshew, but Garoppolo could still make for a good alternative especially thanks to his prior experience with Mike LaFleur. Additionally, a return to the Rams makes sense if they don’t feel fully confident in Stetson Bennett IV as Matthew Stafford’s primary backup,” she wrote.
Geitheim also pointed to other possibilities, including a return to the Rams. She also mentioned the Arizona Cardinals as a fit.
Ultimately, Garoppolo’s next move should come down to opportunity. While he’s no longer viewed as a long-term starter in most situations, with Mahomes possibly being out and having to beat Justin Fields, he’d have a chance to win a job.
