Emmanuel Petit says Liam Rosenior made a ‘huge mistake’ before Chelsea even kicked off vs PSG

As Chelsea were dumped out of the Champions League, supporters started to portion some of the blame towards manager Liam Rosenior.

Rosenior was booed by Chelsea fans for his substitutions towards the end of their second leg against PSG, as he accepted defeat ahead of their return to Premier League action.

Chelsea sources are adamant that Rosenior’s job is safe, however there is going to be pressure on him to deliver a top-five finish after their early exit from the Champions League.

Do you think Chelsea should sack Liam Rosenior? Or are you willing to give him more time?🤔

Liam Rosenior’s ‘defeatist’ attitude cost Chelsea, says Emmanuel Petit

The Blues had very little chance of beating PSG after their first leg, however Emmanuel Petit believes Rosenior didn’t give them an opportunity at all.

He told After Foot that Rosenior’s defeatist attitude was a big part in why the Blues struggled so much at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “When I see Rosenior’s communication after the first leg, remember his communication at the end of the first leg saying at 2-2, at 3-2, it was possible, but 5-2, three goals, to come back, he was already defeatist last week.

“So I think it was a huge mistake. I wasn’t convinced with the arrival of Rosenior in the Premier League – Strasbourg, I think that was a club at his level.”

With Chelsea fans threatening to turn on the current manager, he will need to turn things around fast in the Premier League to save their season.

Liam Rosenior must solve Chelsea’s defensive woes

Chelsea are conceding too many goals since Rosenior took over, and this is the first issue he needs to address in the league run-in.

Reece James‘ absence due to injury is going to be a big miss, even if the latest reports suggest that he is not going to be out for as long as first feared.

Rosenior should look to Josh Acheampong for more minutes in the run in, after he made an impact off the bench against PSG.

Given the fact that Chelsea didn’t sign Jeremy Jacquet because of Acheampong, it is time for the club to make good on that with more opportunities for the rest of the season.
