Report: Chelsea now ready to make really big push to sign PL player who'll cost over £100m

Despite the criticism of Todd Boehly’s five-year Chelsea plan, the spending is unlikely to stop this summer and reports now claim the Blues are set to push hard to sign Morgan Rogers.

Joe Cole went on an epic rant about Todd Boehly’s spending earlier this week, highlighting how £1.5bn has been spent on new signings and yet, the Blues have not made any progress since Boehly arrived.

Knocked out of the Champions League and with their hopes of Champions League qualification in doubt, Chelsea need some inspiration from somewhere. Perhaps, once again, it could come in the market.

Say Morgan Rogers signs for Chelsea – who are you dropping from the XI to fit him in?

Boehly and Clearlake are expected to green-light another summer of spending, and Aston Villa’s £100m-rated star Morgan Rogers is a priority target. Reports say Chelsea are set to push hard for his signature.

The Chelsea man pushing for Morgan Rogers signing

According to a report from TeamTalk, Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent Joe Shields is pushing for the signing of Rogers. While at Man City, Shields identified Rogers is a talent and has followed him since.

Clocking up 112 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa, Rogers has had a hand in 51 goals and assists since his move to The Midlands. He’s proven to be a sensational purchase at a bargain £15m.

Shields is keen to see Rogers in a Chelsea shirt, and the report claims Chelsea are now ready to move forward with plans to land the England international this summer, possibly after the World Cup.

Who else wants Rogers and is there room at Chelsea?

Chelsea are not the only club showing interest in the former Middlesbrough talent. Indeed, Arsenal and Liverpool, as per the report, are keeping tabs on Rogers but their interest is not as advanced as Chelsea’s.

So, is there room in this Chelsea squad for a player like Rogers? Well, the Blues are set to add two more attackers this summer in Emanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda, but Rogers is a different level.

The addition of Rogers would allow Enzo Fernandez to drop back into midfield alongside Moises Caicedo, and keep Cole Palmer in a free role out wide. Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho will be concerned.
