Denver Broncos: Revise Contract of Key Backup for 2026

Denver Broncos offensive lineman Matt Peart began the year as the swing tackle and swing guard heading into the 2025 season. He filled in at left tackle in Week 4 during mop-up duty and started Week 6 at left guard after Ben Powers tore his bicep the following week. Little did Peart know that he suffered a season-ending MCL tear on the third snap against the New York Jets, but he still played the remaining 57 snaps.

Given his recent injury, the Broncos re-signing reserve tackle/guard Alex Palczewski to a two-year, $9.5 million contract, and his cap hit, Peart was widely viewed as a potential cap casualty this offseason. He is scheduled to earn a $3.075 million base salary, with his $755,000 injury guarantee becoming fully guaranteed on March 15, along with $3.5 million in cash and a $3.975 million cap hit in 2026, per Over The Cap. With a standard release, the team frees $3.225 million in cap space while taking on $750,000 in dead cap.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, the Broncos and Matt Peart have agreed to a revised one-year, $2 million contract, including $755,000 guaranteed and a $225,000 signing bonus, dropping his base salary to $1.215 million. As a result, Peart reduces his compensation in exchange for roster security and will compete for the swing tackle and guard role this offseason once he fully recovers.
