Joelinton will be forced to sit out Newcastle United's Champions League semi-final clash with either Atletico Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur should they overcome Barcelona on Wednesday evening.
The Magpies are looking to make it to the last eight of the competition for the first time in the club's history, heading into a second-leg last 16 tie at Camp Nou 1-1 on aggregate with the La Liga titans.
However, should United be successful in putting the Catalan giants to the sword, they will be without Joelinton for the first leg of the semi-finals.
The Brazilian midfielder picked up a yellow card early doors for a foul on Lamine Yamal to take his tally for the campaign to two, which at this stage of the competition, carries a one-match ban.
Currently without Bruno Guimaraes through injury, it could prove problematic for Eddie Howe's plans.
It comes as Hansi Flick and a number of Barcelona players were appealing for a second yellow, if not a straight red, for Joelinton, after he seemingly caught Pedri in the face with his elbow as the 30 minute mark of the encounter approached.
The Spaniard went to ground in the middle of the pitch as Joelinton made contact, pounding the ground as he writhed on the floor. However, Glenn Hoddle - on commentary duties for TNT Sports for the encounter - saw nothing wrong with the passage of play.

He explained: "There's nothing wrong with that. They're saying...Joelinton's just held him off there and they're saying he's elbowed him in the chin.
"Nah, not for me. Not at all. I mean, the crowd have reacted to it, but that's not really an elbow is it? He's just put his arm across him."
Pedri was also seen pulling his face and shrugging his shoulders toward Francois Letexier, feeling hard done by that a foul wasn't given. It was Barcelona who took the lead early doors against Newcastle on Wednesday evening, Raphinha finding the back of the net on home soil just six minutes into the contest.
Anthony Elanga then scored his first Champions League goal for the visitors moments later to level the playing field. Marc Bernal then poked home from close range as the Magpies struggled to deal with a free-kick, before Elanga once again came to Newcastle's rescue.
While the two teams looked destined to head into the half-time interval all-square, drama ensued late into additional time, when Raphinha was brought down in the penalty area by Kieran Trippier.
While Letexier initially saw nothing wrong with the sequence, he opted to award a penalty in Barcelona's favour and book Trippier after VAR review, replays showing the defender holding the Brazilian with two arms as the ball was whipped in his path.
Yamal then stepped up from 12 yards, powering it past Aaron Ramsdale - who, to his credit, went the right way but failed to get near the ball. As a result, Newcastle head into the second-half 3-2 down, with the tie sitting 4-3 in Barcelona's favour on aggregate.
