Seahawks re-sign backup receiver, likely finalizing free agent class

The Seahawks announced they re-signed receiver Cody White on Wednesday morning.

And with that, the Seahawks’ free agent class of 2026 is pretty much signed, sealed and delivered.

White was the last of the 18 players who were officially unrestricted, restricted or exclusive rights free agents entering the NFL’s free agent signing period who had yet to either re-up with the Seahawks or sign elsewhere.

Of those 18, five signed elsewhere: running back Kenneth Walker III (Chiefs), safety Coby Bryant (Bears), edge rusher Boye Mafe (Bengals), cornerback Riq Woolen (Eagles) and receiver Dareke Young (Raiders).

The rest either re-signed with the Seahawks as free agents or were tendered as restricted or exclusive rights free agents.

White has been with the Seahawks since initially signing to Seattle’s practice squad in October 2023. He came to Seattle after having been on the rosters of four other teams since first entering the league in 2020 as an undrafted free agent who signed with the Chiefs out of Michigan State.

White played in 10 games last season and had three receptions for 90 yards — including his first NFL touchdown on a 60-yard reception in a win at Washington — and four kickoff returns for 106 yards as a regular on special teams units.

White suffered a groin injury in a win at Carolina on Dec. 28 and missed the final game of the regular season and the postseason.

“Any opportunity that I’m able to get, especially coming off injury is truly a blessing,” White said about re-signing in a story published on the Seahawks’ website. “I am so excited to be back in Seattle and then being back close to 100 percent, getting back ready for OTAs. It’s going to be exciting.”

Terms of White’s deal were not immediately available.

White is one of three receivers returning to Seattle along with Rashid Shaheed, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal as an unrestricted free agent, and Jake Bobo, who was tendered as a restricted free agent.

Other players who either re-signed or were tendered and will stay with the team are: running back George Holani, offensive lineman Josh Jones, cornerback Josh Jobe, linebacker Chazz Surratt, safety Ty Okada, fullback Brady Russell, defensive lineman Brandon Pili, linebacker Drake Thomas, snapper Chris Stoll and safety A.J. Finley.

The only players who were with the team in any capacity last season and remain unsigned are those who were on the practice squad at the end of the year and were not signed to futures deals and are now free agents, notably safety Quandre Diggs and cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

The Seahawks also have signed or agreed to terms with four external free agents: running back Emanuel Wilson (last year with the Packers), cornerback Noah Igbinoghene (Commanders), safety Rodney Thomas II (Colts) and safety D’Anthony Bell (who was with the Seahawks most of last season but was then waived and claimed by the Panthers and then released at the end of the season).

The Seahawks now have 74 players either signed or having agreed to contracts. The Seahawks also have four picks in the 2026 draft next month. Teams can have up to 90 players on their roster during the offseason and training camp.
