Frank Leboeuf was a great defender for Chelsea, and his take on Mamadou Sarr’s error after 5 minutes yesterday was what you’d expect from a top defender.
The team’s setup left Sarr horribly isolated against Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, but even considering that he dealt with the situation horribly, getting a bad touch on the dropping long ball then getting outmuscled by the winger who had earned a step on him.
Leboeuf slams “crazy” defender from young Blue
“It’s simply not understandable. It’s crazy because he’s not even looking at the ball. He just looks at what Kvaratskhelia is doing. So that was insane for me, and the game was already over [in that moment],” Leboeuf said on ESPN.
But the root cause of the issue was of course last week:
“We knew that on the counter attack Chelsea would be punished. But really Chelsea lost the fight against PSG when [Filip] Jorgensen made that stupid mistake in the first leg. Because they were much better than PSG until that mistake, they were there.”
