As the Washington Wizards closed out their back-to-back set against the Detroit Pistons, the status of the star guard Trae Young remains in question.
On March 16, the Wizards took on the Golden State Warriors. Amid the 125-117 Wizards’ loss, Young checked in for 21 minutes.
The star guard had an impressive outing, as he made 7-10 shots from the field to score 21 points. He also racked up five assists and came down with two rebounds.
Unfortunately, Young suffered a quad injury, which forced him to leave the court early to get checked out. The Wizards ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
When the Warriors approached their second night of the back-to-back to take on the Pistons, Young was ruled out as soon as the injury report was submitted.

Following the Wizards’ loss against the Pistons, Washington head coach Brian Keefe addressed Young with a brief update, leaving plenty of questions about Young’s status moving forward.
“We’re still evaluating, still going through the process of that. Obviously, we knew he wasn’t going to play tonight and we’ll have some more information as we go,” the head coach told reporters.

The 2025-2026 NBA season hasn’t gone as planned for Trae Young.
Entering the season, Young and the Atlanta Hawks didn’t strike an extension, which signaled his days in Georgia could be numbered.
Young started the season with the Hawks, appearing in the first five games. He went down with an injury, which forced him off the court until December 18.
After Young returned, he played in just five more games for Atlanta. Another injury sidelined the star guard. As Young sat out, the Hawks were mulling trade offers. They landed on one they liked from the Wizards. Although Young joined the Wizards in early January, he didn’t debut until March 5.
The Wizards haven’t fully unleashed Young’s minutes just yet. In five games, he hasn’t crossed 25 minutes in a single outing. He played his most minutes against the Boston Celtics on March 14, clocking in for 24 minutes. Young scored 11 points and produced six assists in the 111-100 loss.
As the Wizards consider all options for Young and his current recovery, they are running low on time. With the playoffs out of the picture for Washington, this season, they only have a few weeks left to play this year.
The ideal scenario would be getting Young on the court as quickly as possible to allow him to further develop with his Washington teammates after missing so much time this season. But the Wizards are going to have to take a logical approach. They traded for the guard with intentions of keeping him around long-term. They’ll have to prioritize his health to the max.
Soon, the Wizards should have clarity on Young’s injury recovery.
