New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been named as a top breakout candidate

The New England Patriots undoubtedly took a massive step in the right direction this past season with new head coach Mike Vrabel. After finishing the 2024 season at the bottom of the AFC East standings with a 4-13 record, the Patriots finished this past campaign with a 14-3 record.

The Patriots also had a long playoff run, as they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos. However, their Cinderella run ended in the Super Bowl when they lost to the Seattle Seahawks by a 29-13 final score.

While losing the Super Bowl was undoubtedly heartbreaking for the Patriots, their future is undoubtedly bright with young quarterback Drake Maye leading the charge. As a result of this, they will be looking to continue to have success in 2026 from here.

The Patriots have made some additions early on this offseason, as they brought in players like safety Kevin Byard III and linebacker Dre’Mont Jones. However, another one of the Patriots’ newcomers has been named as one of the NFL’s top breakout candidates to watch for the upcoming season.

New Patriots’ Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Named a Top Breakout Candidate

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Moe Moton discussed seven NFL players on new teams who are prime breakout candidates for the 2026 season. A new player from the Patriots made the cut, as wide receiver Romeo Doubs was the second name listed by Moton.

“Romeo Doubs played within the Green Bay Packers‘ crowded wide receiver corps over the past few years. Consequently, he didn’t fully shine in an ascending offense with quarterback Jordan Love under center,” Moton wrote. “Now with the New England Patriots, Doubs can be a true No. 1 receiver.”

Moton also argued that Doubs having a more significant role with the Patriots should lead to the 25-year-old wide receiver having his first NFL season with 1,000 receiving yards.

With the Patriots needing a high-impact wide receiver, it would be massive if Doubs took a big step forward this upcoming season. He certainly has the potential to hit a new level with the Patriots, as he has shown good promise over his four-year career. It is exactly why he landed himself a nice four-year, $68 million contract from the Patriots in free agency.

Doubs is also coming off a strong 2025 season with the Packers. In 16 games with Green Bay on the year, he had six touchdowns, 55 receptions, and a career-high 724 receiving yards. These numbers are certainly solid, and it will be interesting to see what he can do in a more significant role on the Patriots.

Patriots Should Not Be Done Making Moves Yet

While the Patriots have made some strong moves this offseason, it is clear that they should not be done yet. It is clear that they would benefit by adding another impactful wide receiver to play alongside Doubs. This would be beneficial for a young quarterback who is continuing to improve, like Maye.

Yet, it is going to be very fascinating to see what kind of season Doubs can put together for the Patriots. It would be huge for New England if he puts together a big breakout year.
