Why Stephen Curry isn't playing for Warriors tonight vs. Celtics with injury news

The top game on the NBA schedule Wednesday night is a rematch of the 2022 NBA Finals, as the Boston Celtics host the Golden State Warriors in a nationally televised game on ESPN.

While Boston stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are set to shine at TD Garden, Golden State's superstar point guard Stephen Curry will not play in a game that could be key to the Warriors' Play-In Tournament seeding.

It will mark Curry's 19th consecutive missed game, and the 30th game that the NBA's 3-point king has missed in 2025-26.

Why isn't Stephen Curry playing tonight?

Curry remains out with patellofemoral pain syndrome -- commonly known as "runner's knee." The pain and swelling have bothered the 11-time All-NBA selection since a home loss to the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 30, which remains the last game he played.

Last Wednesday, Curry was ruled out until at least March 21 as he continued to recover from what he described as an "unpredictable" knee injury. Though Curry has made "notable progress," the four-time NBA champion will miss at least a couple more games.

Injuries have disrupted Curry's season and limited him to only 39 games played. The 38-year-old has remained productive, averaging a team-best 27.2 points per game and shooting 39 percent from 3-point range.

But the Warriors need Curry like fish need water. Only a half-game separates Golden State (33-35) from the 10-seed in the Play-In Tournament, and reduced chances of crashing the party in the Western Conference playoffs.
