The Baltimore Ravens appeared to be making a blockbuster trade for superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby earlier this offseason.
After agreeing to a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders that would send two first-round picks for Crosby, the unthinkable happened. Before the trade could become official, the Ravens decided to back out of the deal.
Shortly after backing out of the trade with the Raiders, Baltimore pivoted to signing star free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.
In effect, the Ravens were able to upgrade their pass rush and keep their two first-round draft selections. Backing out of the trade did not sit right with the NFL world and Baltimore received heavy backlash for the way it handled the situation.
More information has since been revealed by Crosby about the incident.
Maxx Crosby Reveals Bizarre Information About Ravens
“I didn’t get to meet with [the head coach] until the end of the day. I didn’t get to see the GM at all. I thought I was going to see him when I first got there. I didn’t see him for five hours and I don’t know why,” Crosby said.
Crosby could tell by the cold welcome that the trade may not go the way he had thought. He quickly learned that he would be returning to Las Vegas.
Despite the situation being a rollercoaster, Crosby maintained a great attitude. He seems excited to get back to work with the Raiders.
“Everyone’s got their own theory, conspiracy theory. No one really will ever admit at either side what the real truth is or whatever. And ultimately, it doesn’t even matter. I am where I’m supposed to be. I know that. I’ll just say that.”
Ravens Facing Even More Backlash for Crosby Handling
During a segment of “First Things First” on March 18, popular analyst Nick Wright took some time to rip into Baltimore for the way it handled the Crosby trade and backing out of it.
“Before their doctors even saw the knee, the head coach and the GM don’t meet him? That part to me was stunning,” Wright said.

It seems pretty clear that the Ravens had already decided that they were backing out of the trade before even meeting with Crosby. That makes it seem more likely that they had already learned of their chances to sign Hendrickson.
Regardless of the timing, the NFL will have lasting feelings about the way Crosby was treated. Baltimore will need to work hard to regain trust with players. There are many around the league who aren’t happy with what happened to Crosby.
That being said, the Ravens have their new pass rusher in Hendrickson and still have their two first-round picks. From a business perspective, not trading for Crosby was the better move.
