Man City have been linked to a £100m Premier League star ahead of the summer transfer window.

Man City are expected to make big moves in the summer as they look to provide Pep Guardiola with a squad that can compete better in the Champions League. They lost to Real Madrid in the Round of 16 this week, and now have far reduced chances of silverware this season.

The Cityzens are expected to invest heavily in midfield due to the recent injury history of Rodri, with several names included as potential targets, but one name has stood out above the rest.

“But Man City have already started thinking about midfielders for their shortlist and on their list, Anderson is a name that is absolutely high.”

Man City warned against signing Anderson

However, the Forest star is expected to command a hefty fee of around £100m, which provides massive risk around making any sort of move, as City won’t want to spend so much on a player who they can’t guarantee will succeed.

Former Man City defender Wayne Bridge spoke about the potential Anderson signing with TeamTalk, and has said it could be a mistake. He said: “With the squad Man City have got, does Anderson slot straight into that team? Probably not.

“It’s a really difficult one to put a £100 million price tag on – when you spend that much on a player, they’re nailed on to start, and as I said, I don’t think Anderson walks into the current City midfield.

“We have these conversations all the time about what someone costs. What does £40 million or £50 million get you these days? It doesn’t get you a world-class central midfielder. He is a world-class player — but is he as good as what Man City have already got? I’m not sure.”

Who else could Man City target?

Seeing as the Magpies are currently ninth in the Premier League table, he could look to move elsewhere, with several clubs named as keen such as Manchester United and Chelsea.

City have also been linked to Tonali, although not as much as the other two. But if they opted against signing Anderson in the summer, the Italy international could be their next option, considering he is already a proven Premier League and Champions League-calibre player.
