Report: Chelsea missing out on Champions League football could trigger exodus of key players

As Chelsea were eliminated from the Champions League in damning circumstances by PSG, worries from supporters increased with comments from Enzo Fernandez after the game.

Fernandez refused to rule out the prospect of leaving Chelsea at the end of the season, presenting a potential crossroads for the ongoing project at Stamford Bridge.

While Chelsea have been happy to flip squad players and young talents they have brought in, they have not had to deal with this prospect when it comes to their key stars.

Missing out on Champions League could be bad news for Chelsea’s big stars

Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Estevao Willian and Fernandez would all make up a core of players that the club would hate to part ways with.

However, according to The Telegraph, a number of players would not move to the next stage of their incentivised contracts.

The report goes on to say that sources have told them that this could cause the club a serious problem when it comes to the opening of the summer transfer window if they do not finish in the top five.

Fernandez is being tipped to leave this summer, despite hopes from Liam Rosenior that he stays, but Chelsea cannot allow this to become a theme.

Latest updates on Chelsea’s other top stars

Chelsea are keen to tie Caicedo down to a new contract, and the latest reports suggest that he is happy to stay at the club despite reported interest from Real Madrid.

A move for Palmer to Manchester United was rubbished earlier this season, but it is fair to say the England international’s performances have not suggested he is completely locked in right now.

Chelsea fans have not been convinced by the project for a long time now, however the saving grace has been the top talents they have added to the side throughout the years.

Losing some of those would be a massive sign that things are not going in the direction the owners were hoping, and ask serious questions as to whether they are the ones to deliver success to Stamford Bridge again.
