New Bills Safety Geno Stone Sends Message to Bengals With Free Agency Comment

The Buffalo Bills have been very active this offseason. After two seasons of ups and downs, the Cincinnati Bengals are dealing with the fallout from a lot of roster changes. There is an experienced safety who needs to show something in the middle of all that.

Free agency always comes with polite PR talk. You know the script “excited for the opportunity,” “grateful for the journey.” Every now and then, a player slips in a line that hits a little harder. That’s exactly what happened when Geno Stone packed his bags for Buffalo.

Geno Stone Takes a Subtle Jab at the Bengals After Joining the Bills

Washington Commanders, Austin Ekeler

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler (30) breaks away from Cincinnati Bengals safety Geno Stone (22) for a touchdown in the second quarter of the NFL Week 3 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Commanders at Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. The Commanders led 21-13 at halftime.

The Buffalo Bills’ official website, reporting by Sydney Ciano, confirmed that the franchise has signed Stone to a one-year deal. The move itself wasn’t shocking.

Shortly after the signing, Stone made it clear why Buffalo appealed to him and questioned what he had left behind in Cincinnati.

“Me getting back into a winning culture…having Josh Allen on the other side of the ball.”

That “winning culture” line Bengals fans caught that immediately. Stone spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He started all 17 games in both years. Consistency was a problem for the 26-year-old.

Stone struggled significantly in Cincinnati. He missed 25 tackles during the 2025 season. That decline forced a pay cut and eventually led to the Bengals moving on.The Bills have stability, a core that can make the playoffs. When Stone talks about “having Josh Allen,” he’s not just talking about a good quarterback. He’s pointing to an ecosystem that keeps games within reach and defenses aggressive.

The franchise is entering a new phase under HC Joe Brady and defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard. The mandate is to force turnovers and get back to the AFC title game. Stone fits that mold. He’s a ball-hawking safety when right. That is evidenced by his seven-interception breakout with Baltimore in 2023.

Stone gets a reset. The Buffalo Bills get depth and upside. The Cincinnati Bengals get a not-so-subtle reminder that players notice culture and aren’t afraid to say it out loud.
