Trippier conceded a penalty on half-time for a tug on Raphinha when the Brazilian looked set to score. The decision was given after a VAR check that also saw the Newcastle man booked.
Lahoz was on punditry duty on SER on Wednesday evening and says the challenge was a “textbook red” and the defender should have gone off which would have left Newcastle down to 10 men.
Lamine Yamal went on to convert the penalty to send Barcelona in 3-2 up at the break, while Trippier failed to appear after half-time and was replaced by Tino Livramento.
Barcelona then went on to run away with the game, scoring four times in the second half to complete a 7-2 victory and book the Catalan giants a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
