Manchester City have a decision to make regarding the attacker’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City ‘could’ let Savinho leave this summer, according to a report by Football Insider. Tottenham Hotspur wanted him last year and they may well rekindle their interest if they stay up. The player’s contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in June 2031.
City remain in 2nd place in the Premier League title. They are nine points behind Arsenal after their draw at West Ham with a game in hand. Pep Guardiola’s side take on the Gunners at Wembley this weekend in the Carabao Cup final.
Manchester City could sell Savinho this summer
Savinho joined City for £31million back in 2024 to bolster their attacking department. He rose up through the academy at Atletico Mineiro and broke into their first-team as a youngster. The winger then moved over to Europe in 2022 to join Troyes.
He spent two years on the books of the French outfit but never played for their first-team. Instead, he was shipped out on loan to PSV and Girona to get some experience under his belt. The Brazil international, who has made 13 caps for his country, then joined his current club.
Savinho has since made 75 appearances under the guidance of Guardiola and he has chipped in with six goals, three of which have come this season. He isn’t a regular starter for the North West side though, hence why his future is up in the air. If Spurs avoid relegation to the Championship, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the forward emerge back on their radar.
After signing for City, he said: “I just got here this morning and I turned to my agent and stepfather and said, 'there was no way I was going to turn down Manchester City'. I'm a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot, to be happy, to play joyful football. I like playing one against one, making assists, scoring goals too, and helping the team. My main characteristic, what I like the most, is being happy and getting fans up off their seats."
Meanwhile, ex-director of football Txiki Begiristain added: "He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond. We are totally confident in his ability. He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop even further.”
