Depot After Dark: Tee Martin Joins LSU, Heinz Sponsoring NFL, Get To Know New Players

A Steelers Depot daily segment. A quick hit of some Pittsburgh Steelers-related stories that may not require a complete article, but nuggets worth mentioning and passing on to you guys.

Your Depot After Dark for March 18.

TEE MARTIN JOINS LSU

The Steelers cycled through a lot of quarterbacks before they drafted Ben Roethlisberger. That position was a big weakness for them for a while, and they struggled to get it right. One player they took a swing on was Tee Martin, who they drafted in the fifth round in 2000. However, he never started a game for them, leaving them after the 2001 season.

While his NFL playing career ended soon after, he wasn’t done with football. Martin got into coaching in 2006, and his first NFL coaching job was in 2019. He spent the past few seasons as the Baltimore Ravens’ quarterbacks coach, but he was let go after last season. NFL insider Jordan Schultz recently shared that Martin has found a new job, joining LSU as an offensive analyst.

Sources: Former #Ravens QBs coach Tee Martin is being hired by Lane Kiffin as an offensive analyst at LSU.

HEINZ SPONSORING NFL

The Steelers’ current stadium was built in 2001, and it was originally called Heinz Field. While it was changed to Acrisure Stadium in 2022, many fans still associate Heinz with the Steelers. The two were synonymous for so long, so it’s been tough not to think of the two together. However, they’re back in business, though in a different way.

Andrew Stockey of news station WTAE shared on Twitter that the NFL has signed Kraft Heinz to a deal to be the league’s official condiment partner. It’s a five-year deal that gives Heinz premium branding at NFL stadiums. It starts at the NFL draft this year, which will be held in Pittsburgh. It’s a fun, full-circle moment for the brand and the city.

“The deal will first be activated at the NFL Draft in late April, which is being held in Pittsburgh, the original home of Heinz and where Heinz had the naming rights of the Steelers’ stadium from 2001-22.” https://t.co/rafOvDogeq

GET TO KNOW NEW PLAYERS

The Steelers added a lot of new players in free agency. That includes trading for Michael Pittman Jr. and signing players like Jamel Dean, Jaquan Brisker, Rico Dowdle, and Sebastian Joseph-Day. All of them figure to get some time on the field for Pittsburgh this year.

While that brings along a lot of change, the Steelers uploaded a video to their YouTube channel asking their new players some questions. It’s an opportunity for fans to get to know them a little more. They all look like they’ll be good additions to the locker room.
