Former two-time NBA champion admits he prefers Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over James Harden

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has continued to prove he is the best guard in the league. He is one of the most talented players, as he is fantastic on both ends of the floor.

He is often compared to multiple elite guards, including James Harden. Considering they are both former MVPs and standouts with the Thunder organization, it is easy to compare the two superstars.

Maxwell gives an honest assessment of SGA vs James Harden

Over the years, bigger guards have dominated the NBA. Harden and Gilgeous-Alexander were mostly seen as shooting guards earlier in their careers, but they proved they are elite point guards as they progressed.

That makes for a natural comparison between the two superstars. They are also elite scorers with all types of moves in their arsenals. Harden is at the tail end of his career, but is still an elite playmaker, while SGA is in the prime of his career.

As a two-time champion during his playing career, Vernon Maxwell knows what it takes to be a successful player. He also has experience playing alongside a generational talent in Hakeem Olajuwon.

Considering Harden was a former Houston Rockets man, Maxwell got to see Harden quite regularly. However, it seems that Maxwell prefers Gilgeous-Alexander over the former Rockets standout.

"James, you know I love you and your mom. I’m sorry, but I’m going to go with SGA... SGA back-to-back, man. Just for what he has been doing for so long with his streak of 20 points," Maxwell said on All The Smoke.

It is a fun debate to have because both players have emerged as superstars. Harden had one of the best primes of any player in NBA history, but it seems SGA is only getting started with his reign atop the NBA.
