The Los Angeles Chargers have remained surprisingly quiet this free agency without signing a big-name free agent. Entering with almost $100 million in cap space and now remaining with around $58 million, the Bolts still can acquire one of the best remaining players.

NFL writer Nick Shook names the Chargers as the best fit for former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

“The Chargers have plenty of reason to like Tre Harris, who flashed during his rookie year starting with his very first training camp, but with Keenan Allen still unsigned, they still have room for a veteran who can contribute,” Shook wrote. “This is where we enter the NFL’s leading heel in 2025, Jennings, a receiver with 75 games of experience and 210 career receptions for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns.”

“His importance increased over his final two seasons in San Francisco, and I’d love to see him join a corps that also includes Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey, if for no reason other than I believe Justin Herbert would maximize Jennings’ potential at this stage in his career. The Chargers can always use another proven pass catcher and Jennings is that.”

LA has yet to make a notable addition signing this offseason that isn’t an internal signing, but the team is keeping tabs on AJ Brown.

Jennings could be the WR1 the Bolts have been hoping to get for Herbert throughout his career. The wide receiver was behind both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk in Santa Clara, and could be the first read in Los Angeles.

Jauan Jennings Would Reunite With Former Coach

If Jauan Jennings were to make his way to Los Angeles, he could reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel.

The duo played together in the 2021 season when both were with the 49ers in Jennings first season with McDaniel being the OC. In that season, the wide receiver logged 282 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.

Reuniting with McDaniel would give the new offensive coordinator and wide receiver chemistry ahead of the 2026 season. Paired up with Justin Herbert, Jennings will play with the best quarterback of his career so far.

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz, while at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, did not shut down the idea of adding another wide receiver to the team despite liking the receiving core.

Chargers Interest In AJ Brown

It was recently revealed that AJ Brown has asked for a trade request.

As mentioned, the Bolts were keeping tabs on the wide receiver. With the player now confirmed to want to leave the Philadelphia Eagles, LA has the opportunity to snag the Super Bowl champion.

With recent wide receiver trades, Jaylen Waddle and DJ Moore, the asking price for a player of Brown’s calibre will be quite large. It seems more and more likely that the Chargers will be forced to trade the 22nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and more draft picks.

Many mock drafts have the Bolts taking a guard with the first-round pick, which could be detrimental to Justin Herbert’s future performances.

If the team loses the race for Brown, Jauan Jennings seems like a good second option.
