Lakers vs. Rockets: The matchup
The Lakers prevailed in Houston on Monday night, taking a 100-92 win behind a game-high 36 points from NBA leading scorer Luka Doncic. That victory was LA’s sixth straight and third in a row over Western Conference playoff contenders, having defeated the Denver Nuggets (127-125) on a Doncic game-winner in overtime and the Minnesota Timberwolves (120-106) over that six-game stretch. The Lakers now own a 43-25 season record and are No. 3 in the West playoff race.
The Rockets are currently the No. 4 seed in the West as part of a tight cluster of five contending teams separated by just 4.5 games, from the Lakers at No. 3 to the Phoenix Suns at No. 7. Houston is just 4-5 over its past nine games, having alternated wins and losses since a road win over the Orlando Magic on Feb. 26. The Rockets have also lost five straight games to current playoff teams in the West.
